The Greeks started it all off with the original Olympic games being played in the nude. Times have changed and now many Greeks do not like the nudity on the beaches. Of course there are still many places for nudists or naturist to go in Greece with many smaller islands with secluded beaches.
Resorts like the Hotel Vritormartis on Crete are very popular with naturist families and couples. Single naturists are also welcome. Our friends at Vritormartis supplied the following information. Throughout Greece, naturism is only allowed in a few licensed areas but it is tolerated in a number of places. Most of these places are quiet, remote beaches or coves. The situation might change suddenly (often when a beach canteen is built a “No nudism” sign will appear) or seasonally (for example at weekends and in July and August when many Greek families go to the beach) so do use your common sense. Remember that you are a guest in this country and avoid deliberately shocking your hosts. Crete is still a deeply traditional place and being nude on a beach may embarrass the locals. Paleohora Sougia Agia Roumeli Agios Pavlos Sweet water beach (Glykanera) Filaki Frangokastello Plakias Further to the East there is a very long beach stretching all the way to Agios Pavlos (not the same as the one mentioned above). Plenty of scope for naturism. Komos beach Lentas Further on, East Crete does not seem to offer much for naturists. The North coast of Crete does not offer many opportunities either, apart from tiny coves here and there. One exception (but for how long?) is Giorgioupoli beach , between Hania and Rethimnon. The sandy beach is 9 km long and in the eastern part it is possible to be nude. Gramvoussa Beside the listed beaches there are of course plenty of tiny coves everywhere for you to discover. A good source of up to date information is Cap’n Barefoots Naturist Guide to the Greek islands, an extensive site about naturism. Fig Leaf Villas. You will find Fig Leaf Villas in the South West Peloponnese. We are about 20 Kms South West of the main city, Kalamata. Our villas are just outside the village of Kalamaki on the road towards Achladohori. We at Fig Leaf Villas believe in giving you the most relaxing and unwinding holiday that we can. Therefore, on arrival in your villa you will find a welcome pack with all your basic needs to settle in, including wine, milk, bread and much more. On the evening of your arrival we will treat you to a 3 course Greek meal with wine and beer on the terrace beside the pool, so that you can relax and settle in after travelling without having to go out. It will give you a chance to meet your hosts and find out more about the local area. This will be a very informal evening. The linen and towels will be changed at weekends, and the villas cleaned on change over day. Feel free to wander around naked and relax in the beautiful secluded gardens. In the pool area we have a bar which is open for drinks and food whenever we are on the premises, a barbeque area which you are free to use plus an eating area as well as sun loungers by the pool. We also have an area set aside for the French game of boules for the more energetic! We look forward to welcoming you to share our beautiful place in the sun. |
