The north of the island is where you will find Corralejo, the main resort for Brits in search of Fun and Sun. The resort is spreading faster than the speed of light and although we have been going for years we still get lost with all the new roads, resorts and theme parks. The beaches outside of the main town are still clothes optional with the miles of sand dunes in the National Park. You can be Lawrence of Arabia for a day but don’t stray to far from the main road it can be easy to get into trouble once you lose sight of the beach. The resort now caters for the mass market, some of whom are shocked at the sight of naked flesh on the beach but I am sure they take in their stride by the end of the holiday.

There are no dedicated naturist resorts in the north but plenty of private villas with pools where nude sunbathing is OK. The popular Villas Azul prices have dropped due to competition amongst the owners and now it is possible to get a 3 bedroom 4 bathroom villa with private pool, hot tub, air conditioning and flat screen TV from around £795.00 per week. Put 6 people in the villa and cheap flights you can have a very cheap good naturist friendly holiday for around £250.00 each.

The Gallery is still a favourite for lovers of art and whacky decorations. You will never see anything like it in the usual tourist market.

Just outside of Corralejo the small villages like La Jares and Villaverde have some very private villas with secluded pools. Again these can work out fairly reasonable but a car is necessary to get to the beaches.

One of my favourite places is El Cotillo which is a local type fishing village on the west coast about 20 minutes drive from Corralejo.

Here you find two different sides to the village. On the south side is a massive beach with great surf, a new harbour and a line of restaurants taking in the fantastic view.

The village itself is in the middle with older types of fishermens cottages alongside newer apartment blocks. The village has small supermarkets and plenty of local restaurants where fresh fish is the order of the day. There is also the older harbour here with two very good restaurants “The Blue Cow” situated next to breaking surf and the “El Capitan” sat right in the best position for a romantic meal al fresco.

To the north of the village is Los Lagos “The Lakes” in fact these are saltwater lagoons flanked by white sand beaches with a smattering of apartments right on the beach. Although these apartments are not classed as nude some such as “El Caleton” on the very far edge of the village are frequented by many naturist’s who can virtually walk straight from their apartment onto the beach.

In the middle of the island is Caleta de Fuste which is an upcoming resort popular with families but not the best place for a naturist holiday unless you want a private villa with its own pool.

A little further down the island is Costa Calma which has plenty of nude sunbathing possibilities on the beaches.

The very south of Fuerteventura “Jandia”

Playa Esquinzo.

The popular Occidental Grand in Fuerteventura will no longer have a nude area due to being sold to the Magic Life club group of hotels. We suggest trying the Monte Marina complex and the Marina Playa hotel that are in the same bay as the Occidental Grand. Of course the beaches are still Clothes Optional but the Monte Marina has a dedicated nude area with pool. The Marina Playa hotel under the same ownership has plenty of textile accommodation and will allow use of the nude facilities, restaurant and other facilities. We found the hotel restaurant to be excellent and what a view perched on the cliff top overlooking the ocean. The Monte Marina now has a great sauna in the building overlooking the pool.
