Steve Clarke started the company Canarian Dreams around 30
years ago after falling in love with the Canary Islands. Combining his love of
watersports such as surfing and windsurfing with naturism on the wide open
beaches of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura where it was OK to be naked on the beach
killing two birds with one stone.
At that time there was only one other major tour operator
“Peng Travel” operating out of the UK. Peng Travel was on the market for a
number of years before owner Peter Englet had an offer to sell “Peng Travel” to a very large textile company
Zest based in Canada.
Now after only a few years without Peter at the helm Zest
have closed down the Peng business due to financial problems. Peter was a colourful character and his
reunions in Bournemouth will be missed by his many clients.
Back to Canarian Dreams and how we got into the naturist
market. Living in Cornwall with its many beautiful and somewhat remote beaches,
naturism is practised on many of our beaches. Around 38 years ago I visited
Vault beach near St Austell and saw many naked people having fun without a care
in the world. After experiencing this happy scene we sourced out other beaches
such as Perranporth, Carlyon Bay, Fishing cove and probably the most beautiful
beach in the UK “Pednvounder” which is almost at Lands End. We spent many hours
on theses beaches dragging first all my water sport’s equipment and then a few
years later on, buggies, changing mats, baby bottles and of course babies and
Venturing overseas for our first truly naturist holiday we
visited the famous naked city Cap d Agde. We had two choices, one go with Peng
or go with Emsdale Travel who were much cheaper. Having two young children, one
3 years old and a 6 month old baby the cheaper option of Emsdale won our
Emsdale travel eventually closed down after Peng Travel
bought them out. Now there are a number of smaller naturist operators filling
the gap left by Peng.
Our own company Canarian Dreams naturist side of the
operation has naturist resorts worldwide and have many repeat clients. Firm
favourites are Charco del Palo on Lanzarote, El Caleton and other resorts in El
Cotillo on Fuerteventura. Also on Fuerteventura Monte Marina in the south is
very sought after naturist complex along with the Marina Playa Hotel run by the
same company. Over in Gran Canaria our Magnolias Natura resort goes from
strength to strength.
Further afield resorts in the Caribbean such as Hedonism, Breezes,
Caliente, Desire and Hidden Beach are all in great demand.
Back in Europe we can offer France, Spain, Greece and
So to top it off I think we can just about please most
clients for their Dream Holiday.
